About Sleep Roxx
The idea arrived while I was failing to take a nap.
I'm not a napper. But I'm a mum to a young child, and if you are too or once were, you understand the real meaning of tired.
I was lying down for my “nap”, completely awake, brain going at full volume. They say the harder you try to sleep, the less likely you are to. So I accepted defeat and decided to just enjoy the comfort. The more my body melted into my mattress, the more I thought: sleep is so good. I love sleep. Sleep rocks.
Sleep Roxx. Well. That's a cool name for a brand, isn't it.
Why it matters to me
I had insomnia right through my teens. School was hell as you can imagine. What eventually shifted for me wasn't one thing. It was many changes.
I created a safe space for me to rest and worked on slowing down my thoughts by listening to hours upon hours of sleep meditation on YouTube.
Prioritising my comfort was an important change, and one that made the biggest difference. I created routine, invested in some pyjamas and slowly began to enjoy my wind-down hour before sleep.
I fell in love with bamboo pyjamas. I couldn't wait to put them on and chill out after a busy day, and honestly dreaded having to take them off.
Fast forward many years later, the idea of Sleep Roxx came to me.
The thing is, I couldn't find anywhere in the UK that sold pyjamas that looked like me. Everything alternative stopped at the bedroom door, or I found that you had to sacrifice quality for some semi-alternative designs.
I've always loved early 2000s nostalgia. I can't get enough of it if I'm honest. I know many others feel the same way because let's be honest, it was an amazing time to be a teenager.
Who it's for
You, probably, if you've read this far.
You went to the gigs and had the late nights. You knew every word to every song on every MCR album. Now the “nights in” mean the most, the rare occasions you take a night off from responsibilities are rarer than ever, and you still listen to a lot of the same music you did in the 2000s.
My goal with Sleep Roxx is to provide comfort, security and a true sense of the awesome alternative community we're all part of. I want to celebrate all aspects of punk culture. People, art, music, beliefs, freedom even. And I hope that one day Sleep Roxx is way more than just a clothing brand.
I'm doing this for all of us. And I really hope you join me for the ride.
